Reverberation — In Tune continues the ongoing development of the “Reverberation Project” by the sound artist LAI Chi-hsia and One Litre Sound collaborators. Created during the 2025–2026 residency at the National Taichung Theater, this new work gradually takes shape as an immersive experience that brings together sound installation, live performance, and spatial perception.
Beginning with traditional Taiwanese handmade instruments and sonic practices, the “Reverberation Project” explores the relationships between material, craftsmanship, and sound through field research and sonic experimentation with these instruments including muyu, temple bowls, drums, gongs, and bamboo instruments. This work expands outward from a single sound into the surrounding space and environment, and the ways people within the space perceive and connect with one another.

The title Reverberation — In Tune draws from the ideas of embodied perception and sound. The work not only focuses on what we hear, but invites the audience to reopen the body’s perception and sensibility to sound. When sound is no longer merely information to be received, but becomes something tactile, physically felt, immersed within the space, and emotionally resonant, audiences may begin to rediscover the delicate resonant relationships between themselves and their surroundings.
Centered around traditional Taiwanese handmade instruments, Reverberation — In Tune combines live performance, sound installation, real-time sound processing, and surround sound design to create an immersive sonic environment that audiences can join and listen to.

Performed by musicians, the work incorporates traditional instruments, automated mechanisms, and electronic sound systems. Through the interplay, expansion, and transformation of acoustic and electronic sounds, the performance constructs a layered listening experience. Integrating theatrical technology, sound art, and installation-based presentation, the audience is invited not merely to see a performance, but to enter the work through their own sensory awareness — moving through shifting light, sonic vibrations, and spatial environment. From hearing and touching to full bodily perception, the work encourages audiences to re-experience how sound moves and transforms within space.
Through field research and studies of traditional craftsmanship, this work also reflects on the interdependent relationships between sound, material, the body, and the environment, shaping a sonic ecology that is both deeply perceptual and intimate.
