Peeping Tom Triptych

Invitations from European and American theaters continue unabated.
Is human frenzy due to a loss of sanity? Or is it a reflection of desire?
Gabriela Carrizo's piece is so innovative that it would have been worthy of the great Pina Bausch herself. — The Telegraph
The power of each piece of the trilogy lies in the permanent unpredictability of events. The moments of surprise arise primarily from dance - from a seductive as well as compelling movement language that describes an overwhelmingly heightened atmosphere of psychic primal fears. — Tanz
A waiter vigorously scrubs bloodstains from the floor as an ocean liner prepares for a mysterious and unsettling night. Passengers embark with high hopes, only to find themselves trapped in three enigmatic enclosed spaces, dominated by natural forces from which there is no escape.

Europe’s acclaimed Belgian troupe, Peeping Tom, presents the thrilling masterpiece Triptych. Founders Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier use a surreal visual aesthetic reminiscent of film director David Lynch to create a disquieting, terrifying, yet sensuous, obsessive, sweet, and violent exploration of the dark corners of human nature.
Triptych is a reimagined version of three short pieces created between 2013 and 2017 in collaboration with Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT1). In The missing door, are the unopened doors symbolic of life’s predicaments or pathways to escape? The lost room, set in an eerie ship cabin with self-inflating sheets and a naked maid, stirs traces of memories and inner emotions. The hidden floor features a waterlogged, abandoned restaurant where drenched dancers are controlled by an invisible and powerful force. In the interweaving of reality and fantasy, the audience will unravel the layers of the work alongside the performers.
Triptych received a nomination for Best New Dance Production at the 2023 Olivier Awards. The scenic changes in the performance unfold with a cinematic montage effect, and Taiwanese dancer YU Wan-lun’s breathtaking physical performance stands out, lauded as the most unforgettable moment of the piece.
Choreographer & Artistic Director/Gabriela Carrizo
Born in Córdoba, Argentina, Gabriela Carrizo began learning modern dance at the age of 10. She started her journey in dance composition while performing with the Córdoba’s University Ballet. In 2000, she co-founded the acclaimed dance troupe Peeping Tom with Franck Chartier. The reputation of the dance troupe reached new heights with 32 rue Vandenbranden, winning the Olivier Awards for Best New Dance Production in 2015 and earning invitations from major European theaters. In 2013, Carrizo’s collaboration with Nederlands Dans Theater 1 (NDT1) on The Missing Door garnered the Herald Angel Award at the Edinburgh International Festival. In 2024, Carrizo directed and choreographed La Ruta, her second short dance piece for NDT1, which also won the Olivier Awards for Best New Dance Production of the year.
Choreographer & Artistic Director/Franck Chartier
From 1986 to 1989, Franck Chartier was a member of Maurice Béjart’s Ballet du 20ème Siècle. He also performed the famous ballet Le spectre de la rose at the Paris Opera with the French modern dancer Angelin Preljocaj. In 2000, he co-founded the renowned dance troupe Peeping Tom with Gabriela Carrizo. In 2015, he directed The Lost Room for Nederlands Dans Theater 1 (NDT1), receiving the prestigious Dutch Swan. Chartier worked with Gabriela Carrizo on 31 Rue Vandenbranden in 2018, opened the renowned Biennale de la danse de Lyon, the oldest dance festival in France.
Creative Team/Peeping Tom
Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier, co-founded Peeping Tom in 2000.
Both originating from Alain Platel’s prestigious dance company in Belgium, they get inspired by the peculiar and flawed beauty, the duo pushes the boundaries of physicality to extremes in their creations. Their works unfold in a seemingly rational spacetime yet exude an eerie atmosphere of the inexplicable, delving into familiar yet distorted phenomena. Emphasizing collective creation, Peeping Tom preserves each dancer’s unique interpretation and portrayal of characters, crafting a distinctive artistic identity. Their productions have received global acclaim, with performances frequently sold out and invitations to headline at renowned venues like the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, solidifying their premier status alongside luminaries such as Pina Bausch Dance Company.
