The evening begins with one of chamber music's most perfectly balanced dialogues: Mozart's Duo for Violin and Viola in E-flat major, K. 423. Composed in 1783, the work balances playfulness and tenderness with an ease that only Mozart could achieve. Two voices, nothing more - and yet the world feels complete.

Enrique Granados's Piano Quintet in G minor shifts the conversation to the sun-drenched melancholypain. Granados bringsthe colours of his homeland into the chamber ensemble: folk inflections, Impressionist harmonic s the quality offirelight in the dusk.                                                      

The programme closes with Brahms's String Sextet No. 1 in B-flat major, Op. 18 - a landmark of the the composer's mostdeeply human works. Written in 1860, it unfolds with an unhurried richness, its six string voices iwarmth.
