Introduction
Hansel, who grew up in East Germany, has a gift for music. He longs for freedom and to find his soulmate. In 1988, at the age of 20, Hansel undergoes a sex change operation and changes his name to that of his mother, Hedwig, to be able to follow his love to the US. However, the sex change operation is a failure, leaving Hedwig with a one-inch mound of dysfunctional flesh, referred to as the angry inch. Not long after moving to the US, she is abandoned. She then dons a blond wig and bright red lipstick to return to her passion, music, forming a rock band named The Angry Inch.

One day, love comes knocking on her door, as she meets Tommy. But not for long, her heart is broken, as Tommy leaves her. Her band, which now includes her husband Yitzhak, continues to struggle. As Hedwig releases her emotional pain through her music, she breaks free from that which binds her. Facing her true self, she waits for an opportunity to meet up with the one she loves again.

About the Program 
In 1998, Hedwig and the Angry Inch went from small venues to Off Broadway. In 2014, it made it to Broadway, receiving four Tony awards. The screenplay is by film director John Cameron Mitchell (Shortbus), who wrote, directed and starred in its premiere, as well as in the film version. Hedwig and the Angry Inch has been performed in the UK, Australia, Germany, Canada, Japan and Taiwan.

The Korean adaptation of Hedwig and the Angry Inch has been performed more than 2,000 times since its Seoul premiere in 2005. It is a box office legend there. OH Man Seok and Michael K. LEE play Hedwig in the Korean and English language versions, respectively. Audiences experience the emotional trauma of Hedwig as she suffers cruel twists of fate. “Love” is the theme, with Hedwig singing of the courage required to love and the vulnerability that it brings.

OH Man Seok / Hedwig (in Korean)

The consummate actor, OH Man Seok has appeared in television series, in films and on stage. His television credits include The Man of the Vineyard and The King and I and his film credits include True Fiction. In 2014, he was recognized with a star award at the Daegu International Musical Festival.

When the Korean adaption of Hedwig and the Angry Inch premiered in 2005, his performance captivated audiences. He continues to be a fan favorite in the role of Hedwig. In 2017, he rejoined the cast of this musical and is once again thrilling audiences with his vocal and acting skills.

Michael K. LEE / Hedwig (in English)

Michael K. LEE shuttles between the stages of Broadway and Korea. He is known for being at ease in both rational and emotional roles. On Broadway, he played Thuy in Miss Saigon. In Korean productions, he has gained fame for his realistic portrayals and outstanding singing voice.
In 2017, he began to successfully interpret the role of Hedwig in the Korean adaption of Hedwig and the Angry Inch to rave reviews. “It was as if Broadway had moved to Seoul.” His moving vocal performances and sentimental portrayal of Hedwig have earned him many standing ovations. In 2014, he was recognized with a star award at the Daegu International Musical Festival.

JUN Hye Sun/Yitzhak (in Korean)

JUN Hye Sun possesses a powerful singing voice and has appeared in a number of stage productions and musicals. Since 2006, JUN has played Yitzhak in the Korean adaption of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, accumulating the largest number of appearances in this role of any actor. In 2017, JUN’s stirring performances of Yitzhak earned high praise from audiences.

J-Min / Yitzhak (in English)  

SM J-Min is a vocalist signed with Korea’s S.M. Entertainment. She performs in a number of languages including Korean, Japanese and English and enjoys popularity in Korea and Japan. Since 2012, she has devoted herself to creating brilliant stage performances. In 2016, she stood out from the competition at auditions for the role of Yitzhak and since then has been a Korean fan favorite.
