“Jaw-dropping visuals and world-class puppetry combine in a unique and ‘breath-taking’.” –The Times
“It will make you believe in theatre. A triumph.” –Sunday Times
Leaping from the pages of a novel and the screen to the stage—a fantastical adventure that explores the essence of humanity.
Winner of three Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards, this theatrical masterpiece has triumphed on both London’s West End and New York’s Broadway.
This work is an adaptation of the globally acclaimed novel and the stage version of Ang Lee’s highly praised film of the same name. The story follows Pi, a young boy who survives a shipwreck and drifts at sea for more than 200 days with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, ultimately experiencing a miraculous rescue.
This grand production, an original stage play from the UK, brings together some of the world’s finest artists. Distinguished by its uniquely realistic puppetry, it blends innovative theatrical techniques, acclaimed performers, and masterful puppeteers to craft a world on stage filled with both fantasy and profound philosophy. It is not only a perilous journey across the ocean, testing the very limits of human nature, but also a deeply moving theatrical masterpiece.
The play premiered in 2019 in Sheffield, UK, followed by performances in London’s West End in 2021 and on Broadway in New York in 2023. The vividly realistic tiger, the raging ocean, the drifting boat, and the unpredictable weather are brought to life through ingenious stage design, lighting, sound, and visual effects, presented in a way that is both realistic and breathtaking. This remarkable production quickly sparked widespread acclaim and discussion worldwide.
In 2022, it won five Olivier Awards, including Best New Play, and in 2023, it received three Tony Awards for Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Sound Design. It also won five UK Theatre Awards and the WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Play, as voted by theatre audiences. The first Asian tour will begin in 2025.
