Pianist Giselle Hsin performs Ma Shui-Long’s most substantial piano solo work, the Piano Sonata written in 1974. This date was also the era when Giselle was studying with the foremost Taiwanese/Parisian pianist Siao-Pei Yang; thus, the second half of the concert is dedicated to her piano teacher, using the two sets of Chopin Etudes Op. 10 & 25 performed straight thru without an intermission. Giselle Hsin’s recording of Ma’s works was nominated for “The Best Album” in the Golden Melody Award in 2023. Her numerous awards from international recognition include the New York Chopin Competition and the Mozart Bicentenary Piano Competition of Asia.
