09/18(Thu)19:30
From the ancient myths of Greece to modern-day folklore, mythical figures and supernatural spirits have taken on diverse appearances in art, telling imaginative and fantastical tales. This recital begins with Purcell’s “Fairest Isle”, the dwelling place of the gods in Greek mythology, and invites the audience to experience mythological stories through songs and operatic arias. Among these stories are Cupid, the little god of love; Ganymed, the beautiful youth beloved by Zeus; Psyché, the most beautiful woman with a fate full of twists and turns; Hébé, the goddess of youth who serves wine to the guests without ever turning back; Phyllis, who transformed into a tree for love; and various musical depictions of spirits, fairies, and sirens. This recital invites the audience into the mythical world through music, poetry, and song.
