M.O.V.E. Theatre The Moment by Daniel WANG
11/30(Sat)14:3012/01(Sun)14:30
Through a long monologue, Daniel WANG’s 2020 work Wonderful narrates the final life journey of a father who dances with loneliness in the memories of his deceased wife. In 2024, WANG created a new piece titled The Moment, based on his mother’s 20-year battle with illness. Within the same narrative context as Wonderful, The Moment is written from a female perspective, weaving the parallel memories of the main characters: a mother, a daughter, and the daughter of a foreign caregiver. Although the two plays tell their stories separately, they are interwoven, using the same water tank as the primary visual impression, and further explore issues of gender, family bonds, and life.
The Moment tells the story of three women who initially believed they were strangers. During a rare holiday, they unexpectedly book the same bed and breakfast, and they are forced to spend a long night together as a typhoon rages outside. Amid the storm, they delve into each other’s pasts and discover unexpected connections. Before the storm subsides, they inadvertently uncover the mysteries of their own lives. These three women, like isolated islands, face their own life challenges while continually seeking companionship and understanding.
