Arguably the finest apostles of Russian and Germanic musical traditions of the late 19th century, Bortkiewicz’s and Medtner’s lives and works were almost tragically buried in the ruins of wars and revolutions. In May 2026, pianist Artemis Yen set to bring a rare program of Bortkiewicz's Piano Sonata No. 2, Miniatures inspired by Tolstoy's novel, along with Medtner's Sonata Romantica and Brahms’ well-adorned Op. 117, presenting romantic treasures composed amidst turmoil and personal tragedies.
