“Unhindered by boundaries” is the core idea behind the Neo-Classical Chamber Ensemble’s creation of multidisciplinary musical theater productions. Pursuing the light ahead—Into Paul Chiang  is creatively conceived by Chen Hsin-I, Music Director of the Neo-Classical Chamber Ensemble, inspired by the paintings of  Taichung-born and internationally-acclaimed artist Paul Chiang. Paul’s paintings, such as Notre-Dame de Paris, Hundred Year Temple, Pisilian, and Silver Lake, create a discourse between mankind and nature, and the land and spiritual realms.  Hsieh Chieh-hua, artistic director of Anarchy Dance Theatre, joins in this transdisciplinary production of soundscapes, light, installations, and interactive technology, to create colorful imagery out of music and light that manifests Paul Chiang’s distinctive artistic vocabulary.

Production／Neo-Classical Chamber Ensemble

Founded in 2003, the Neo-Classical Chamber Ensemble brings together a talented team of highly experienced musicians, headed by music director Chen Hsin-I. At its core, the ensemble seeks to be “unhindered by boundaries” in its original, multidisciplinary musical theater productions, and has performed internationally at the opening week of Cen Long: The Constellations in Collateral Events at the 2019 Venice Biennale  and in Chicago, receiving rave reviews for showcasing the liveliness of Taiwan’s musical creativity to audiences in the Windy City. In addition, the ensemble has performed at the first anniversary of the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts in 2019 and the 2021 Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival, and its works have been shortlisted for two prizes at the 2022 WSD exhibition.
