A defining force in Taiwan’s contemporary dance landscape, HORSE celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2026 with Big Dance, co-choreographed by CHEN Wu-kang and SU Wei-chia. Costume design is by LIN Ching-ju, while percussionists HUNG Yu-wen, YU Jo-mei, and LIU Kuan-ping of One Litre Sound join the production as collaborators and live performers. Bringing together HORSE founding members CHEN Wu-kang, SU Wei-chia, and CHOU Shu-yi, alongside longtime collaborators YEH Ming-hua, FANG Yu-ting, and CHEN Pei-jung, as well as younger generation dancers HSIEH Chih-ying, CHENG Tzu-tung, HSUEH Jen-kai, TSAI Yun-ting, CHEN Yu-ching, and HSIA Chen-wei, the work draws upon two decades of accumulated practice and shared experience, weaving together the traces of what has come before, reflections of the present moment, and questions directed toward the future of dance.

From the playfulness of Velocity, the purity of Bones, and the hope and despair of Growing Up, we come to recognize the many facets of I. From there emerges the courage of Successor, allowing us to rediscover 2 Men and those around us with fresh eyes. Letting go of the attitude of Playdead, we uncover FreeSteps through a process of distillation and renewal. Turning and spiraling onward, we come to know the dance of the divine, only to realize that the dances we have performed over the past twenty years have long been embedded in our bodies, our hearts, and beneath our feet.”

From a first decade defined by collective creation to a second spent pursuing individual paths, HORSE now enters its third chapter. Led by SU Wei-chia, Big Dance unleashes a frenzy of movement. Taking on “structure,” one of the core principles of choreography, it generates a new wave of visual and sensory impact through the body. Forces extend and fracture, collide and converge, as the performers probe the limits of physical possibility. In doing so, the work reflects deeply on the individual and the collective, history and the future.

Founded in 2004, HORSE has established a distinctive profile with precise physical movements and their boundless creativity. In 2008, Velocity won the Taishin Arts Award, a prestigious arts award in Taiwan. In 2013, 2 Men won the 1st prize and Audience’s Choice Award in Kurt Jooss Preis, PACT Zollverein, Essen, Germany. In recent years, the company's two soul figures, CHEN Wu-kang and SU Wei-chia, have each developed distinct creative paths. As leading choreographers of their generation, they continue to drive the company forward into its 20th year—a period of metamorphism in Taiwan's contemporary dance scene. HORSE also endeavors to participate in and organize international collaborations, outreach programs, and curatorial projects. The practices include the platform Primal Chaos Dance×Sounds Improvisation and Back to the moment Dancing Talking Bar, a dance cinema in which creators and critics share and interact in real time, among other projects. Through diverse forms of dance, HORSE extends the history of Taiwanese dance, allowing audiences to experience its different facets while redefining the mission and possibilities of a dance company in today’s society.
