Following a budding romance between a blockbuster playwright and a young spotlight-seeking actress, Taiwan Hólíwood celebrates the paralleled life and cinema through a series of ups and downs. As their affection grows, the filmmaking team also overcomes a series of financial and political obstacles with passion and trust to bring back the last glory of the Taiwanese-language cinema before it fades into oblivion under the shadow of the dominant Mandarin.

Composer & Music Director / Owen WANG
After graduating from National Taiwan University with a degree in political science, Owen WANG took up film music for his master's studies at New York University, and has worked in the music industry full-time since 2007. His mentors include famed Hollywood composer Ira Newborn and Lion King musical director Joseph Church. Being Taiwan's first composer to be trained in authentic Broadway tradition, WANG has works spanning the genres of theater, film, television, advertisement, modern dance and popular music, with collaborators including the Tainaner Ensemble, All U People Theatre, Godot Theatre Company, Greenray Theatre Company, Shakespeare's Wild Sisters Group, and Contemporary Legend Theatre. In addition to heading the musical production company Studio M, WANG is a consultant on the popular music industry for the Ministry of Culture, and has served on the judging panel at the 26th and 28th Golden Melody Awards and the 5th Golden Indie Music Awards.
Playwright & Lyrics / HSU Meng-lin
HSU holds a master's degree in playwriting from Taipei National University of the Arts, having previously majored in theater arts as an undergraduate. His works span both screenwriting and playwriting, with his plays being nominated for the Taipei Literature Award and the Taiwan Literature Awards, and screenplays receiving awards at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival and the ART&TUR International Tourism Film Festival. He is currently a core member of the Genesis Ensemble and tech company creative director. His works include numerous micro movies for the Ministry of Education and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, lyrics for the World of Warcraft musical with AFK Pl@yer and Studio M, the script for the music video to Penny Tai's song "Piano Keys", and No Kissing Under This Tree for Our Theatre's The Farm of Plays project.
Lyrics & Co-writer / LU Hsiao-i
LU is a graduate of the Department of Chinese Literature at National Chengchi University and the Graduate Institute of Drama and Theatre at National Taiwan University. After honing her skills at the 2018 Taipei Performing Arts Center Musical Workshop, she now primarily works in musical theater, and was a co-creator of Why She Stayed, an original musical commissioned by the Taipei Performing Arts Center which premiered in September 2019. Recent credits include dramaturg for the BDSMtw musical Forbidden Community, director of productions of Winter Dreams and I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change for musical production courses at National Taiwan University, and director of children's musical theater productions at the Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival.
Director / YANG Ching-hsiang
YANG is an adjunct assistant professor at the Department of Drama at National Taiwan University of Arts, and the artistic director of the Yang Ching Hsiang Ensemble. In addition to directing more than 20 works, he is also active as a playwright and actor, working in genres as diverse as musicals and physical theater. He represented Taiwan at the 2012 Toga Asian Theatre Directors' Festival in Japan, and was nominated for best screenwriting at the 2011 Golden Bell Awards with the TV series Innocence for Hakka TV.
Choreographer / CHANG Hung-cheng
CHANG holds a master's degree from the Graduate Institute of Performing Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, and is active in both acting and choreography. He has performed with companies including Godot Theatre Company (Kiss Me Nana, Love Ya Mom), Studio M and Tainaner Ensemble (Mulan:The Musical), Story Works (Wicked Wish), Perfect Match (MRT), Red Theatre Group (The Dress), All Music Theatre (Taiwan as a Young Man), Taipei Philharmonic Theater, and Ping-Fong Acting Troupe, and has also performed in Quanta Arts Foundation's A Time to Remember and Music Nation Wingman's Anything Goes.
Studio M
In January 2010, Owen WANG founded Studio M and envisioned it as a brand that produces and promotes musicals. Studio M has been prominent in Taiwan's musical industry, integrating creative talent from libretto and music composition, production, actor training, promotion and market development. Since creating Mulan:The Musical with the Tainaner Ensemble in 2011, Studio M's productions have included Hedwig and the Angry Inch in Mandarin, Songs of Azeroth based on World of Warcraft, and a cabaret series beginning in 2014. In addition, Mulan became the first Taiwanese musical to be performed abroad in 2016, setting a milestone for international collaboration. Studio M continues to work with musical enthusiasts, creating original work and promoting Taiwanese Mandarin-language musicals.
