From Late Romanticism to the 20th-century Soviet Union, the Opus Music Festival's closing night presents a brilliant dialogue between chamber music and concertos.

The first half features Korngold’s Much Ado About Nothing, a witty and tender musical narrative for violin and piano. Rachmaninoff’s Elegiac Trio No. 1 in G minor, composed at age nineteen, reveals his signature breathtaking melodic gift and emotional depth.

The second half opens with Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major, where the solo cello sings freely like a confident vocalist. Finally, Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra, Op. 35 uses a rare double-solo lineup, balancing biting irony and pure musical genius to bring Steven Lin and friends' journey to a radiant close.
