YU Yen-fang Propositions on Disappearance Ⅲ
05/24(Fri)19:3005/25(Sat)19:3005/26(Sun)14:30
With my body, I embody the yearning for you — YU Yen-Fang challenges the most understandable solo dance.
How do you keep hold of memories of bereavement? In every one of us lies traces and memories of who we are, whether it be our genes, or simply a habit of ours.
In this part drama, part solo dance, YU Yen-fang deconstructs and reconstructs signs and symbols relating to personal memories of her father by imitating her father’s oral and body language, using her body in dance to breathe as one with him. Projected video and sounds recorded at her father’s old wooden seal shop draw audiences into the intimate, personal space that helped shape the memories and experiences of her life.
Creation and Performance/YU Yen-fang
A choreographer, performer, improviser, and dance instructor in Taiwan, YU has left an indelible impression across Europe, the United States, China, and Taiwan through performances and instruction at various dance companies, theaters, and art festivals. In 2013, she launched Project MuoMuo as a long-term program to cultivate young performers and interdisciplinary artists, performing in venues ranging from markets to theaters, followed in 2017 by MuoMuo Workshop to promote improvised dance. As a freelance artist, she navigates between dance, drama, and live exhibitions, both in domestic and on the international stage.
