After its premiere became a big sensation in 2007, April Rain finally makes a comeback to stage with brand new visual design, well-choreographed singing scenes and a cast of brilliant musical actors. Inspired by the story of the legendary Taiwanese composer TENG Yu-hsien, April Rain depicts how TENG’s talent shaped the culture of Taiwan, how his artistic pursuit was frustrated by the Japanese Imperial rule and the looming threat of war and his romantic relationship with the diva Sun-sun. The musical optimizes the zeitgeist of the golden age of a newly minted modern society by tracing the meteoric life of the prodigy, ready to sweep the audience away with the charm of the “dancing 30s” of Taiwan.

Artistic Director & Playwright / Mel YANG

Mel YANG is the CEO of Quanta Arts Foundation and the artistic director of All Music Theatre. His former capacities include the deputy editor-in-chief of Audio Art magazine, the founder the editor-in-chief of All Music magazine, the deputy editor-in-chief of China Art magazine, board member and CEO of Poco a Poco Music Education Foundation, board member of Digital Art Foundation, board member of the Taiwan Center of the International Theatre Institute. He won the Best Instrumental Album and the Best Instrumental Album Producer of the 10th Golden Melody Awards for his production of Tchaikovsky Symphony record with conductor LIM Kek-tjiang.

Composer & Arranger / RAN Tian-hao

A graduate of the Department of English, National Chengchi University, RAN Tien-hao is now a full-time composer. He is also the artistic director of Perfect-Match Theatre and contract music arranger for the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus and Taiwan Vox Nativa Children's Choir. RAN’s composition works are mainly musicals and choral art songs. His previous positions include music arranger for Formosa Singers, Taipei Male Choir and T42 Singers.      

Director / FU Hong-zheng

FU Hung-zheng is a Chinese Malaysian theater director. He received his MFA at the Graduate Institutes of Theatre Arts, National Institute of the Arts and specializes in directing and physical movement teaching. He founded M.O.V.E. Theatre in 2006 and currently serves as the artistic director of the troupe. FU Hong-zheng’s works feature poetic physical landscape, multi-perspective collaged narrative, condensed theater language, and multiple metaphors of space, through which he creates a theater of intensity integrated with surrealistic visuality and musicality. The themes of his works include contemporary history, myth, cultural and social issues.

All Music Theatre

Founded in 2007 by its current artistic director Mel YANG, All Music Theatre is the first theater group in Taiwan that undertakes the mission to develop original musicals. Guided by the philosophy to be innovative and trailblazing, to blend old and new, and to be socially and culturally focused, the troupe has launched three successful productions titled the Taiwan Musical Trilogy—April Rain, My Dear Next Door, and The Impossible Times. All Music Theatre was formerly the influential All Music Magazine and Publishing, which has been committed to the development and future prospect of the local music industry since 1994.
