The Purity of Song Cycles
10/29(Wed)19:30
Mezzo-soprano Ting-Yu Fan and pianist Hsin-Jung Hsieh reunite on stage, bringing together poetry and music to explore the purity of words and the richness of heartfelt emotion through the art of song.
The first half of the evening highlights the timeless partnership of Schumann and Heine, with selections from Lyrisches Intermezzo and the complete song cycle Dichterliebe. These masterpieces capture the very essence of German Romanticism, where music and poetry are inseparably intertwined.
In the second half, the program takes a playful and imaginative turn with Austrian composer Ivan Eröd (1936–2019). Setting texts by playwright Richard Bletschacher (b. 1936), Eröd’s witty and inventive song cycles Milchzahnlieder and Krokodilslieder reveal the charm of contemporary vocal art—blending humor, fantasy, and vibrant musical storytelling.
