Tunghai University Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Concerto
05/22(Fri)19:30
In celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Tunghai University, the Department of Music presents this gala concert. The evening opens with Johannes Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 performed by the symphony orchestra. Its spirited melodies serve as a fitting symbol of academic freedom and the passing of the torch from one generation to the next.
The program continues with W. A. Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra No. 10 in E-flat major, KV. 365, featuring our faculty members Shih-Wei Chen and Chia-Ying Hsu. Through the intricate dialogue between the two pianos and their collaboration with the orchestra, this performance embodies the profound bond between teachers and students. It is a testament to the spirit of "learning and growing together" as faculty and students perform side-by-side on stage.
The second half features John Rutter’s monumental work, Magnificat, performed with the combined forces of the symphony orchestra and choir. With its lively rhythms and grand melodies, the piece transforms traditional Latin text into a contemporary celebration of joy. These powerful movements offer a majestic tribute to Tunghai University’s seventy years of glory, symbolizing how the university spirit continues to resonate through the enduring power of music.
