Telemann in Paris
11/07(Fri)19:30
In the late Baroque era, Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767) enjoyed greater fame than J. S. Bach. A master of many instruments and orchestration, he blended Italian, French, and German styles with charm and character. In 1730, he published his first set of Paris Quartets, inspired by the French suite and overture, and in 1737 performed them in Paris with Michel Blavet, Jean-Pierre Guignon, and Antoine Forqueray to great acclaim. A second set, the Nouveaux Quatuors, followed in 1738. Demanding both virtuosity and stylistic refinement, these works remain Baroque chamber music classics. For this concert, The Gleam Ensemble presents Taiwan’s first complete Paris Quartets with Yu Ma (Baroque flute), Han-Na Lee (harpsichord), Shio Oshita (Baroque violin), and Yung-Liang Huang (viola da gamba).
