Introduction

Cheng Wan-li, the chairman of a sacred temple in central Taiwan who claims to be the descendant of Koxinga, faces the threat of the temple’s demolition due to urban renewal. Determined to attract national attention, he  decided to organize a large-scale Guoxing Arts Festival featuring a musical extravaganza portraying the story of Koxinga. Unexpectedly, his son Cheng Ma-hao, who pretends to be a bank manager but actually  a drama graduate and joined a theater troupe after graduation, returns home at this time. He hopes to prove himself and gain his father's approval by leading the production, encouraged by his uncle Chen Tai-lang, who rallies the entire village to support Cheng Ma-hao. However, conflicts arise between the father and son due to their different ideologies during the preparation process. As the arts festival is about to unfold, the unresolved issues and conflicts between the father and son intensify, mirroring the father-son rivalry between Nicholas Iquan Gaspard and Koxinga depicted on stage. In the end, will they be able to achieve success?

HaoxHsiaoTroupe
Founded in 2011 by Huang Chien-hao and Hsiao Tung-yi, HaoxHsiaoTroupe adheres to three major principles: Delivering funny stories and creating entertaining plays, Unrestricted subject matter and scale, and Not limiting to the theater as the sole creative domain. Continuously prolific, their numerous works span across theaters, the internet, film, and television, making them arguably one of the top (self-proclaimed) comedy troupes in Taiwan. Their works are characterized by a distinct “HaoxHsiao style,” marked by unconventional and slightly improvisational performances, which is the charm of HaoxHsiaoTroupe. In recent years, their significant theatrical productions include the Taiwan-originated comedies Dumb Lover and the Angry Nerds series, as well as works inspired by European and American classics such as Space Nerds (inspired by the French play Waiting For Godot) and Dumb Waiter (inspired by the British play The Dumb Waiter).
