Legend Lin Dance Theatre The Eternal Tides

LIN Lee-chen, named one of the world’s eight most significant choreographers by ARTE, returns with a timeless masterpiece.
Three decades in the making, her trilogy Heaven, Earth, and Man reaches its deeply moving final chapter.
What crosses your mind as you watch the waves?
The tide comes and goes with the rhythm of the days—like cloud and rain, like river and sea.
It arrives from afar, only to return again.
So too is life: a quiet ebb and flow of meetings and farewells,
where each encounter, each parting, gives us the strength to begin again.

Created in 2017, The Eternal Tides is the final chapter of LIN Lee-chen’s trilogy of tribute to Heaven, Earth, and Man. This work was more than three decades in the making.
From the ancestral calling of Miroirs de Vie, to the cyclical flow of life and death in Anthem to the Fading Flowers, and the quiet dispersal of Song of Pensive Beholding, The Eternal Tides rises like a wave folding back upon itself. It gently carries the audience home, back to the source, where a profound and wordless reunion quietly unfolds.
Principal dancer WU Ming-jing stands alone on a stage veiled in white. Her figure evokes a bird, trapped yet yearning to be reborn. For nearly thirty minutes, she spins through a thousand revolutions to the beat of the drum. It is not only a test of physical and mental endurance, but also a silent ritual of devotion.
Time seems to slow. And we, too, are drawn inward toward the quiet sanctum of the soul.
Named one of the world’s eight most significant choreographers by ARTE, Europe’s leading arts channel, LIN Lee-chen is known for work that speaks through stillness and strength, revealing the quiet weight of life.
This year, to mark the 30th anniversary of Legend Lin Dance Theatre, her iconic piece The Eternal Tides returns to the stage. Graceful and gentle, it offers a silent companion through the tender journey of farewell.
If you have ever faced a parting too deep for words, or held on to a longing too heavy to release, let The Eternal Tides be there with you—for a wholehearted goodbye.
Legend Lin Dance Theatre
Founded in 1995, Legend Lin Dance Theatre takes its name from hakumokku, the pure white ceremonial robe symbolizing clarity and simplicity. Under the artistic direction of LIN Lee-chen, the company has developed a distinctive training method centered on stability, tranquility, detente/release, calm/subsidence, gradualness and strength —anchored in the philosophy of “motion in stillness, stillness in motion.”
Rooted in Taiwan’s unique cultural and spiritual landscape, the company has created just four full-length works over the past three decades: Miroirs de Vie, Anthem to the Fading Flowers, Song of Pensive Beholding, and The Eternal Tides. These productions channel profound emotional and spiritual power through a refined movement vocabulary that speaks in silence.
Legend Lin Dance Theatre has been invited to perform at major international venues in France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Russia, Japan, and Canada. It was also the first Taiwanese dance company to appear at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris.
