Unleash ultimate freedom, defy gravity!
Premiering at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2019, Elements of Freestyle garnered widespread acclaim and took the international dance scene by storm. A creative fusion of extreme sports, street culture, dance, and music, the performance transforms the stage into a lively urban playground. The result is a breathtaking display that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, delivering a pulse-pounding, adrenaline-fueled experience.
Elements of Freestyle is unconventional, breaking the boundaries of form and space. Choreographed and directed by Marco Gerris, a former judge of the Dutch version of American dance competition show So You Think You Can Dance. It brings together 10 of the world’s top extreme sports performers and street dancers. The performance electrifies the audience with a thrilling display of breakdancing, inline skating, freestyle basketball, BMX tricks, freerunning, skateboarding, and more—combining speed, power, and creativity in a dynamic 60-minute show. Each performer takes their turn in rapid succession, delivering heart-stopping action with no dull moments. Every second promises to leave the audience gasping, screaming, and shouting for more!
This wildly popular, high-energy production is both comical and audacious, yet deeply poetic. The show, featuring live string music combined with electronic beats and a massive, ever-changing U-shaped ramp, dazzles with grand, immersive lighting and sound effects. It shatters the rough, rebellious stereotype of street culture, blending street dance with theatrical aesthetics in an exhilarating display of skill and creativity. Invited to perform in Germany, Norway, Australia, the UK, Hong Kong, and more, the show has received rave reviews. In the summer of 2025, you will witness this boundary-breaking spectacle—an unforgettable display of human endurance that will leave you in awe.
ISH Dance Collective
ISH Dance Collective, founded in 2000 by Marco Gerris, derives its name from the English suffix “-ish,” signifying entities that are indefinable and multifaceted. Drawing inspiration from street culture, the collective integrates hip-hop dance and extreme sports into theatrical performances, blending traditional arts such as ballet, drama, and classical music. This fusion creates innovative performances that bridge everyday life and art, embodying a spirit of breaking boundaries and defying conventions. Beyond performances, ISH Dance Collective is committed to promoting hip-hop culture among children and adolescents, aiming to help young dreamers find their stage and shine.
