The Peony Lantern
08/16(Sat)14:3008/16(Sat)19:3008/17(Sun)14:30
Blending supernatural literature with Eastern classical puppet theater, The Peony Lantern is brought to life by the Unique Puppet Theater, adapted from Tales by Lantern Light: The Peony Lantern. The story follows the lantern maker Sanlang and the phantom singer, FU Shu-fang, as they cross the boundaries of life and death in a poignant love story. The performance centers around classical Eastern puppet theater, combining the delicate art of Liyuan Opera with live accompaniment from Nanguan pipa music and Japanese Noh theater. The stage design is rich and layered, with the lantern transforming into a projection screen, creating a mystical yet poetic atmosphere. This delicate fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics offers a profound and romantic theatrical experience.
