4つのテーマ×5時間の叙事詩の旅　
世界屈指の演出家と名門劇場による圧巻の国際コラボレーション

『信仰、金銭、戦争と愛』は、ロベール・ルパージュとベルリン・シャウビューネ劇場のアンサンブルが共同創作した作品です。トランプの4種類のマーク――ハート、クラブ、スペード、ダイヤを着想の起点とし、俳優らによる長期間の即興創作を通じて、「愛」「信仰」「戦争」「金銭」をめぐる4つの物語を紡ぎ出しました。

第二次大戦後間もないドイツでは、修道院で育った孤児の女性が成長後にパリで双子を出産するものの、占い師から不吉な運命を告げられ、子どもたちを手放すよう勧められます。一方、ベルリンの壁崩壊後、西ドイツのある夫婦がバレンタインデーの旅先で運命を狂わせ、妻はギャンブルに溺れて財産を失います。また、アフガニスタンからの帰還兵はPTSDに苦しみながら戦友を失った記憶をカウンセラーに語り、さらにあるゲイカップルは、ウクライナでの代理出産によって子どもを持つことを願います。

全4幕、公演は5時間に及びます。4つの物語は交差しながら、約80年にわたるドイツの歴史を描き出します。舞台では4面の回転スクリーンが巧みに用いられ、各幕の冒頭でカードがめくられるように、ハート、クラブ、スペード、ダイヤのマークが現れます。スクリーンは空港や巨大なキャンバス、ホテルの客室、カジノへと自在に姿を変え、流れるような場面転換を生み出します。「劇場の魔術師」ルパージュならではの鮮やかさで、観客を壮大な劇場叙事詩へと誘います。

Robert Lepage

Hailed as the “modern-day Da Vinci” and “the stage magician,” Robert Lepage is a native of Quebec, Canada. He is a playwright, actor, and director, recognized as one of the most influential contemporary multidisciplinary theater artists. His work spans theater, film, opera, and concerts, where he masterfully uses stagecraft to tell stories while integrating innovative technology and multimedia to create highly original, modern productions. Lepage has received numerous accolades, including the International Society for the Performing Arts’ Distinguished Artist Award, Canada’s Companion of the Order of Canada, and the European Commission’s Europe Theatre Prize. In his first collaboration with Schaubühne Berlin, he created and directed a brand-new work, "Faith, Money, War and Love".

Schaubühne Berlin

Founded in 1962, Schaubühne Berlin has been under the artistic direction of Thomas Ostermeier since 1999. Under his leadership, the theatre presents at least ten new productions each season alongside a repertoire of around thirty revivals. Guided by the concept of a “Collective Creation Theatre,” it brings together directors with diverse artistic approaches while exploring contemporary and experimental theatrical languages. Whether staging classical or contemporary works, Schaubühne Berlin places a strong emphasis on narrative form and rigorous textual analysis. In 2024, Schaubühne Berlin appeared at the National Taichung Theater with Thomas Ostermeier’s direction production of An Enemy of the People, which was met with enthusiastic acclaim from audiences for its striking contemporary perspective and powerful stagecraft.
