WENG Jou-pei

Mezzo-soprano WENG Jou-pei holds a Master of Music degree from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Her awards include First Prize in the Bank SinoPac Young Artists Showcase Vocal Competition (2005) and top honors in the Asian Division of the 12th New Voice Competition in Yokosuka, Japan (2007).
In 2009, she was selected through an audition conducted by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to appear as the sole Taiwanese soloist at the opening concert of the Kaohsiung World Games, where she performed Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Vienna State Opera Chorus.
Her operatic repertoire includes Rosina in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, the Mother and the Witch in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Adalgisa in Bellini’s Norma, and Ortrud in Wagner’s Lohengrin. She has performed extensively throughout Europe and Asia, including appearances in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Macau, Hong Kong, and Japan.
WENG is currently an adjunct lecturer at Taipei National University of the Arts and National Taipei University of Education.
