LIEN Yi-shien

Cello

LIEN has been the associate cello principal with the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan since 2001. She received her Doctoral Degree of Musical Arts from the University of Maryland and attended the master classes of Janos Starker, Orlando Cole and YANG Wen-sinn. She was also the winner of the Homer Ulrich Honors Award in Solo Performance. Her notable solo performances include Ibert cello concerto with the NSO, Gulda cello concerto with the Taiwan Wind Ensemble, and world premiere Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon concerto with the NSO and the National Chinese Orchestra under the composer and conductor Tan Dun.
