LAI Yong-ting
Puppet Design
Since first apprenticing with Taiwanese puppet master LI Tien-lu at age 17, LAI Yong-ting has become inseparable with the art of wood carving and puppet design. Now with more than three decades of experience, he has traveled with his puppets across more than 50 countries, even journeying to study with the Czech master carver Antonín Müller. Knowledge of foreign cultures, in contrast, helps one understand and appreciate better one’s own culture, and this has helped LAI highlight the uniqueness in his work.
