CHIAO Yuan-pu

Planner, Preview & Lyrics Translation

Born in Taipei and gained his Ph.D. of Musicology at King's College, CHIAO Yuan-pu is an expert on piano, pianists and classical music, and has published 11 books. The Colors between Black and White, the collection of his interviews of 108 pianists, has been translated into Japanese with great acclaims. His adaptation of Ibsen's Peer Gynt and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, with the complete incidental music designed by Grieg and Mendelssohn, also won tremendous praise.

During 2008-2009, CHIAO served as an Edison Fellow of the British Library Sound Archive. In 2010 and 2012, he was the artistic director of the International Chopin Festival and Debussy Touch Piano Festival in Taiwan. His collaboration with NSO as a dramatist was started in 2011.

In addition to a popular radio host and podcaster, CHIAO is frequently invited to give lectures and lecture-recitals in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Macau.
