CHENG Chia-yin

Artistic Director

CHENG Chia-yin is the Artistic Director of Puppet & Its Double Theatre, a lecturer in the Department of Drama and Theatre at National Taiwan University, and a member of the UNIMA Artist Commission of the Union Internationale de la Marionnette. She holds an MFA in Puppet Arts from the University of Connecticut.

Her artistic training includes participation in international workshops with renowned masters such as German puppeteer Albrecht Roser, French theatre director Philippe Genty, and American shadow theater director Larry Reed. She is among the few contemporary artists working internationally who move fluidly across multiple forms of puppetry, integrating directing, puppet design and construction, and performance within her creative practice.

In 2019, she was recognized as one of the seven representative women puppetry artists worldwide in the Routledge publication Women and Puppetry. In 1999, she co-founded Puppet & Its Double Theatre, and in recent years has led the establishment of the Lizé Puppet Art Colony in Yilan, which has become an important center for puppetry creation and exchange in Asia.
