Alex WU is a percussionist renowned for his mastery of hand drum traditions from Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa. In recent years, he has drawn on his solid foundation in traditional Chinese music and versatile percussion skills to cross musical boundaries, performing in genres ranging from world music and jazz to Latin and pop.
With his exceptional technique, creative fusion of styles, and extensive performance experience, WU has become one of Taiwan’s most sought-after world music performers. His artistry can be seen everywhere from large-scale pop music tours to the grand stages of national orchestras, where his playing adds a distinctive brilliance to every performance.
WU was nominated for Best Player at the 3rd Golden Indie Music Awards in 2012 and received the Outstanding Alumni Award from the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts in 2018. He currently serves as Artistic Director of the ensemble Spectro 7, and is a member of Sizhukong and Sheng-Xiang & Band.
