LI Yuan-chen

Composer

LI Yuan-chen first arrived on the contemporary music scene in Taiwan at age 20 with the unconventional, Beiguan-influenced instrumentation of her chamber music piece Zang. Intermezzo: Tsan, a work most representative of her MFA studies, depicts a zen-like spirituality through a chamber music setting transfigured through traditional Chinese musical techniques. Her recent work has included arrangements of songs spanning Taiwan’s four main language groups - Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hakka, Indigenous - forming a collection titled Folksong - Homage to Formosa.
