LIN Hwai-min

As the founder of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, LIN Hwai-min was first known as a fiction writer, but change to a dance career while studying for his MFA degree in the United States.
LIN is an expert in drawing from Asian cultures and aesthetics to create works with contemporary spirits. With his dedication, Cloud Gate has won acclaims worldwide.
In 2013, LIN received the prestigious Samuel H. Scripps / American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement as the first awardee based in Asia.
LIN's other honors include the John D. Rockefeller 3rd Award, the Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters from the Ministry of Culture of France, the Honorary Fellow of Trinity Laban, and the honorary doctorate of six universities in Taiwan and Hong Kong. The Time Magazine named him as one of the “Asia's Heroes.”
At the end of 2019, LIN retired from his position as Cloud Gate's artistic director.
