Rich HUANG is a renowned jazz drummer, songwriter, and composer who has been a towering figure in Taiwan’s jazz scene for more than half a century. Celebrated for his exceptional skill, he is widely known as the “King of Drums in Taiwan.” In 2020, he received the Special Contribution Award at the 31st Golden Melody Awards in recognition of his outstanding achievements.
HUANG has been invited to perform at numerous jazz festivals both in Taiwan and abroad. His versatile style spans pop, classical, jazz, and traditional music. In 2000, he gave a landmark solo concert at the National Concert Hall, establishing a pinnacle in his career as a jazz drum soloist.
Beyond performance, HUANG has played an integral role in Taiwan’s popular music industry, contributing to album productions for many leading pop artists, with recordings numbering over ten thousand tracks. For more than four decades, he has been deeply committed to the promotion of jazz drumming, and he currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Music at Fu Jen Catholic University and as a senior consultant for the Taiwan Percussion Arts Alliance.
