Born in 1985, Andy YEN studied in the doctoral programs of Art Creation and Theory of Tainan National University of Arts and the Institute of Applied Arts of National Chiao Tung University, and graduated from the Graduate Institute of Fashion and Media Design of Shih Chien University, and the Department of Arts of the Tainan National University of Arts with a minor in drama. His experiences started from fine arts and extended to drama, fashion and media design, and now is an interdisciplinary artist.
YEN’s Organs without Body collection shows his strong visual style and ambitiously incorporates different types of materials, such as painting, garments, and space, all of which are within his field of experiment.
The creations during YEN’s residency have opened up more possibilities through experimenting with the five senses. By working with artists and groups from different backgrounds, and putting together the performance format of fashion, the language of visual arts, and the live music, YEN hopes that performing arts will get closer to people through the communication via fashion and visual arts.
｜Creative Experiences｜
Since 2007, YEN has continued to organize solo exhibitions every year, and participated in group exhibitions and art expositions. Moreover, he has joined the Artist-in-Residence programs in Stock 20 in Taichung Railway Station, CMP Creative Lab, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai, Hangzhou Cross-strait Cultural Communication Center, and Khoj International Artists' Association in Delhi. His creativity has flourished as he moved around Asia for exhibitions and residencies.
Recent works: 2016 SWATCH x Andy YEN, Dimensionality reduction pieces-Andy YEN Solo Exhibition at Tainan Place of the Mitsukoshi Department Store, design for the Platinum Artist Gift Set of Twinings Tea and art installation for Twinings Tea Art Show at Huashan Creative Park, and live creation at Simple Life Shanghai 2014.
